It is important to understand what the term publishing refers to. In the
broadest sense, the publisher is the person or people who take financial risk
and also take responsibility for marketing and distribution of the book.

Once you have created the content for your book, you can either publish it
yourself or try to have your material accepted by a publisher.

Self-publishing can be a daunting prospect – but it can be rewarding if
you do it right. When a publisher accepts a manuscript, the author enters
into an agreement (publishing contract), which entitles the author to a
percentage of profits from sales, (usually 5-15%). If you are the publisher,
all of the profits are yours ie.you get 100%.

You should consider what you
want to publish and why?
If your book is for personal use only, such as a family history or biography
to be distributed freely among family and friends, do you have the financial
resources to fund it?
The same financial consideration applies to publications for commercial sale.
Can you seek funding through grants or sponsorship? Do you have the time and
energy to invest in advertising, marketing and distributing your book?

There are so many variables
in book production that it is virtually impossible to estimate without an
understanding of what you want - so contact us or visit us for a free
consultation.
We can help you determine the technical specifications of your book (eg.
format, paper and print quality) to suit the market expectations and your
budget.
We will also discuss with you the all-important promotional and distribution
strategies.
We calculate the costs and prepare a comprehensive quotation for you
free-of-charge.

This bit is easy because we create the book with you.
We begin with a design of the book. We then layout the book and supply you
with page proofs to check and make any corrections. After corrections, we
supply a final set of page proofs for your approval to print, bind and
deliver. It's that easy!
We encourage you to enjoy the creative process. We make every self-publisher
an honorary member of the Publishing Solutions team for the duration of your
book's production.

We guide you every step of the way with professional and independent advice.

Browse your local bookshop and seek out other books of a similar genre to
yours. Look on the imprint page (usually toward the front of the book) and
note the publisher and their contact details. This is a great way to compile
a list of publishers who are most likely to consider your manuscript.
Evaluate your market. Is the book commercially viable? Why? Who is the target
audience? Prepare a publishing proposal that outlines how your book is
different/better than others in the marketplace. The book's marketability is
the primary interest to any publisher.
Check with publishers for their submission guidelines, often available on
their website. Make sure you target publishers who publish your type of book.
An initial and a follow-up call to the publisher is always a good idea. The
publisher’s formal reply can take months, so be patient.
